DID YOU KNOW?

The Andy Griffith Show was a spin-off from The Danny Thomas Show.
- During its run, the series spun off Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., featuring Mayberry's goofy gas attendant (played by Jim Nabors). The army series was a ratings success, even garnering larger ratings than its mother show.
- Griffith's birthplace (Mt. Airy, North Carolina) provided the names for many of the show's characters. Nearby towns included Lawsonville, Walkertown Crumpler and Taylorsville.
- Ronny Howard’s career took off after The Andy Griffith Show. He played Richie Cunningham for six years on Happy Days and went on to be a successful director (Cocoon, Parenthood, Apollo 13).
- Andy Griffith and Don Knotts reunited on Matlock in 1988.
-After Mayberry was cancelled, Andy Griffith decided to return to network television. In 1971, he played the mayor of a small southern town in the short-lived comedy The New Andy Griffith Show.
- Currently, The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club has a membership of over 20,000.
